Dutchess - nine yo, spayed female, 66.eight pound. Dutchess came to our rescue from a shelter after her family could no longer care for her. She is a laid back kind of gal with a peppered grey muzzle. She was assessed with other dogs at the shelter and was largely indifferent, but coexisted peacefully with them in the yard. Dutchess was sent to the hospital to have a painful hematoma removed from her left ear and is now back at the shelter.... (read more) She has a drain in the surgical site to remove blood build up from the area. The site needs to be kept clean and she should wear an e-collar for the next 2-3 weeks until the draining/swelling is gone. It appears this is not the 1st time Dutchess has had issues with her ears, and has a scar on her right ear from a possible prior hematoma. She may also be deaf or hard of hearing and does not seem to respond to loud noises - so we have to physically wake her up when she's taking a nap!
